VERTICAL PURPOSE

HELPING PEOPLE FIND VERTICAL PURPOSE.

LOVE GOD. LOVE PEOPLE. MAKE DISCIPLES.

MEET JOHN

John Nix is a high-energy, engaging, and humorous expository preacher. He preaches the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a way that is understandable. John teaches the scripture with clarity and then calls people to repentance and faith as he challenges the audience to set God as their highest value, discover the truth of scripture, and respond in obedience as God speaks. John is a nationally sought-after preacher and international conference speaker that ministers to thousands each year. His enthusiasm is contagious and you will generally find the people around him laughing, dancing, and talking about the scripture.

JOHN'S FAMILY

John and his wife Allison along with their three children Sarah, Sydney, and Simeon make their home just outside of Memphis, Tennessee.

VERTICAL PURPOSE MINISTRIES

People are asking questions and there is an increasing number of people claiming to be spiritual or religiously unaffiliated while rejecting organized religion and objective truth. People need truth and are desperate for purpose. In 2002, John founded Vertical Purpose Ministries, a Memphis based nonprofit organization to help people find the truth and purpose they are searching for, what he calls their “vertical purpose.” Vertical Purpose partners with churches, ministries, schools, and individuals to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ and participate in making disciples.

JOHN AND THE CHURCH

John loves Christ's church and understands the importance of the local church in the Christian life. He serves on staff as a Teaching Pastor at The Orchard Church in Collierville, Tennessee. He is under the authority of his church leaders and is sent out from The Orchard as a missionary.

"My job is to be faithful to scripture. The Holy Spirit and the word will do their work. My prayer is that when I finish preaching the hearers will see the beauty of Jesus Christ and walk away amazed by God’s grace."

ONE MORE VERSE

ONE MORE VERSE

One More Verse 2048x1089 Red.png

WHAT IS ONE MORE VERSE?

One More Verse is about addressing biblical illiteracy, making disciples, and serving the local church. John is serious about Jesus' command to make disciples, but he struggled to find a way to connect with people after events because of the nature of itinerate ministry. One More Verse offers an opportunity for ongoing ministry and discipleship after John leaves.

We always need more of God's word because humanity cannot live by bread alone. We all need one more verse. Reading the Bible is essential for a follower of Jesus, but it seems to be lacking in the lives of Jesus'followers. Even this reminder can become white noise because it is a foregone conclusion. Many miss the joys of communion with God through the scripture because of the way Bible reading is presented by parents, pastors, and friends. We know we should read the Bible, but we have a disconnect between what we believe and how we live. So, let's read the Bible together and build a community that will encourage and help one another as we read and study together. Part of sanctification happens within the context of community, and One More Verse is a resource designed to help people understand the Bible regardless of whether they have never read it or if they have read it a hundred times.

Join us we read the Bible together. The One More Verse plan is a chronological overview which will help us see the Bible as one great story. Let's listen to God speak, grow in grace, and encourage each other along the journey. Daily we will read a short passage; John will provide some notes to help you understand what we read, and offer some questions to help us apply the text. Then watch for opportunities to join John Nix online as we discuss what we are reading.

The Bible applied to the heart by the Holy Ghost is the chief means by which men are built up and established in the faith, after their conversion. It is able to cleanse them, to sanctify them, to instruct them in righteousness, and to furnish them thoroughly for all good works.
